Cloverdale is the northernmost town in Sonoma County on the banks of the Russian River about 85 miles north of San Francisco. The town is nestled in oak-studded rolling hills, vineyards, and small farms in the Wine Country and is part of the Alexander Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA). It began as an early stagecoach stop and was incorporated in 1872 when the San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad arrived.  The Cloverdale Rancheria is an 80-acre community of Pomo Indians, an indigenous federally recognized tribe, at the southern end of town.
